Royal Caribbean Just Unveiled The World's Biggest, Most Luxurious Cruise Ship

Published: Wednesday, 09 May 2018

It's got a 10-story water slide, a zip line, and friggin' robotic bartenders.

The largest, most luxurious cruise ship on earth opened its doors to the world earlier this week.

Unlike other megayacht concepts, Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas is fully operational and ready to embark on its five-night maiden voyage with over 5,500 guests this Saturday.

Weighing in at nearly 230,000 tons, the 1,188-foot ocean liner took three years to build. For context, its length is only 70 feet shy of the Empire State building's height.

The astounding number of onboard amenities is too lengthy to list in its entirety, but highlights include a zip line, robotic bartenders, pool and surf simulators, an ice rink and a two-deck family suite that can sleep up to eight guests.

It also boasts a bevy of bar and restaurant options, 2759 staterooms, and the 10-story Ultimate Abyss water slide, which is said to be the tallest of any seafaring slide.

The Symphony of the Seas is the newest addition to the cruise line company's Oasis class. With room for 39 extra passengers, it narrowly steals the "world's largest" title from its predecessor, Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas.

A season of Mediterranean tours will begin April 7. Ports will include Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Provence, France; Florence/Pisa, Rome and Naples, Italy.
